Love with its sleeves rolled up

Serve

We Were Made to Serve

At Vuka we love to serve, and we serve with joy. That is not a slogan. It flows straight from the One we follow. Jesus, the King of everything, did not arrive to be waited on. He came to serve, and He gave His life to do it. A church that follows a Saviour like that cannot help but roll up its sleeves.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45 (CSB)

We are still putting our full theology of service into words, but the shape of it is already clear. We serve in three directions: one another in the church, our community around us, and the world beyond us. Here is what each of those looks like.

Serving in the Church

First we serve one another. On a Sunday that is the people who quietly make the morning happen: the baristas pouring the coffee, the welcome and announcements, the media, the audio desk, and the band. Ordinary gifts offered to God so the whole family can meet with Him.

Serving the City

Next we serve our community, right here in Monavoni and the few kilometres around us. We partner with our local Community Policing Forum, we love on the children of nearby orphanages, and we show up at community events to be an encouragement wherever we can.

Serving the World

Finally we lift our eyes to the nations. We will be honest: as a church we have not yet gone. But the desire is real and it is near. We are praying and preparing to carry the gospel beyond our own borders, and soon.

Where we are heading

Faith That Shows Up

A faith that only talks about love has missed the point. Real faith gets its hands dirty. That is why serving is not an optional extra at Vuka, it is simply what believing looks like when it is alive.

For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
James 2:26 (CSB)

Not Sure Where to Start?

You do not need a title or a talent to serve. You just need to be willing. The best first step is to join us on a Sunday and let us know you would like to help.

There is a place for you to serve.
